Vietnam Kitchen at Cheras, Leisure Mall

This is another CNY post. Again, an overdue post. Went out for lunch with my friends during CNY at Vietnam Kitchen. Well, I've made a Vietnam Kitchen post before this some time ago.

At first, we do not know where to have lunch. Since we are at Leisure Mall, it will normally be Vietnam Kitchen or Wong Kok Char Chan Teng. The moment we reached Wong Kok's main entrance, the waiter asked us how many people. Looking at the huge crowd inside the place, we knew we will have to wait for seats. So, we decided to jump over to Vietnam Kitchen for lunch.

Well, this is the first time I'm having Yee Sang at Vietnam Kitchen. Their Yee Sang looked so colourful~! Priced at RM38.80, there were lots of vegetables and some fruits like cucumber slices, chestnuts, carrots, dragon fruits, and many more.

After all the wishes being thrown in while mixing the Yee Sang, all of us munched on it. It was okay, but not fantastic. It tasted quite funny at first. I think the pieces of crackers "keropok" being served spoiled the Yee Sang. The crackers were actually not crispy anymore and tasted quite weird.

Moving on, below are what we had for lunch. I forgot to take photos of other food as I was too lazy. Moreover, I wouldn't be able to try them if I take the photos. So, I better take photos that I actually tried eating them. LOL

This is what my friend ordered. Lemongrass Chicken Chop with Rice. Priced at RM9.90, I think it's pretty worth it because of how well it tasted. My friend gave me a small piece of the chicken. I tried and loved it~! It was blasting with flavors and so tender. It was just so tasty. I wish I ordered that. :)

But, I'm still happy with what I ordered that day!!! Since I'm not into rice that afternoon, I decided to order the Sliced Chicken and Spring Roll with Vermicelli. Priced at RM10.90,the bowl consisted of vermicelli, lots of shredded cucumbers, raw bean sprouts, green veges, slices of chicken, one whole fried spring roll, and being topped with crushed roasted nuts. I must say that I really love it very much.

Again, the chicken were very very flavourful and tender. I don't know whether they grill them or what, but they're just awesome! Mix everything up together, I find it a very healthy meal to be with all the greens and wonderful chicken, spring roll mixed with aromatic peanuts.

Another friend of mine ordered the Vietnamese Fried Rice which costs RM9.90. At one glance, the plate of fried rice may look plain and ordinary. Without looking any further, I tried one spoon of the rice. I would describe the rice as savory, delish and enough of "wok hei". A nice plate of fried rice should be accompanied best with a fried egg. Yummy~ (Especially if it's a sunny side up~!) :P

Sek Yuen Restaurant at Pudu

Went for a dinner with my family during CNY. Forgot which day, but it isn't important. The most important are the food. Wahaha..I'm so happy that I get to eat at Sek Yuen cause it's one of my favourite restaurant. So, let's get on to the food!!!

First to arrive was of course the famous "Yee Sang"! The Yee Sang was full of blasting flavors, every bite of it was just so good. From the raw fish, crunchy bites, to fresh shredded veges, tasty sauce. It was just so amazing. I don't know how to say it but they got extra unique flavors than the others. This is absolutely the best Yee Sang that I've ever tasted since last time until now.

My dad had pre-ordered two dishes as there were some dishes that need to be book a few days earlier (I think) upon your actual dining date. The two dishes are known as (杏花鸡) Almond Chicken with fish paste and (八宝鸭) Eight Treasure Duck. So, here they are.

Almond Chicken. This dish was a little different from the one I had from another stall. At Sek Yuen, they only have the chicken skin on top, and the bottom was fish paste with almonds. Where as the other stall I tried was chicken skin, with half chicken meat and fish paste. The other one is called (白花鸡). Back to the Almond Chicken. The skin was really crunchy and the fish paste was flavourful. At one bite, you could taste the soft and spongy fish paste with crunchy skin and aromatic almonds at the same time. I like it. :)

Next was (八宝鸭) Eight Treasure Duck. At first look, it was a normal cooked duck being presented on the plate. After a while.

Voila! The duck was stuffed with many different ingredients such as (白果) "bak guo", (连子) "lin ji", mushrooms, and many more. The meat were tender, the ingredients inside were soft and flavorful too. Plus the soup was so nice to drink as it was kind of sweet with rich duck flavor and other ingredient's fragrant. Yummy.

Next up was stir fry fish with spring onions and ginger. This is another nice dish as the sauce was prefect with the fresh fish. It has the "wok hei" too~! I love stir fry with enough wok hei. Very nice, another delish sauce to go with your rice.

This dish is called "蟹 jou". I don't quite remember but I think there were crab meat inside since the name of this dish has "蟹". :P I think inside there were some vege too. Sorry for the "I think" cause I actually don't quite remember, it tasted like some hand made meat balls but delicately it was tasty and delightful. It's crunchy on the outside, inside was hot and a bit soft too.

Prawns!!! This prawn dish got another vote from me. I think it's called "gon jin ha lok". The prawns were covered with enough garlics and aromatic sauce. It was very nice as the prawns absorb the sauce and you could taste the freshness of the prawns too. We brought over the prawns for dinner and asked them to cook for us. (My mom bought these prawns for CNY~!).

Last but not least, it is the (排骨皇) Pork Ribs King. My dad ordered this specially for my cousin bro cause he loves this very much. The taste was again, it was savory. But, some of the meat were tender and some are not. I think it's because the differnet size of the meat pieces, hence some were overcooked and some were just nice. But, overall it was still ok. Again!!! This dish is a very nice dish to go with your white rice. The meat were very well marinated too. Yummy-licious.

    Year 2007 CNY Cookies

I know it's a bit too late to post about CNY stuffs as it's a past now. But, I still wanna share it. :)

Anyways, I've made quite little cookies this year. I've only made two type of cookies and helped my aunt to do another three types of cookies.

For the two cookies that I made, I used the recipes from All Recipes . The two types of cookies I made was Beth's Chocolate Chip Cookies and Crisp Oatmeal Cookies .

I have no regrets using a different recipe for my Chocolate Chips Cookies as there're yummy! Everytime I bake a cake or have cookie session, I would reduce the amount of sugar from what the recipe stated. If I were to follow exactly to the recipe, my bakings would turned out too sweet for me and my family's liking.

Same goes to these two recipes, I deducted almost quarter or half of the amount of sugar the recipe stated.Well, I must admit that I don't bake that often.

The Chocolate Chip Cookies actually turned out to be quite soft, or uncooked cause the recipe said do not over bake it. Moreover, my kitchen's old oven had problem telling me what exactly the degrees are. So, adjusting the correct heat would be a problem. After feeling dissatisfied about what turned out to my batches of chocolate chip cookies, I lost confident in baking Crisp Oatmeal Cookies. But I need to move on cause there isn't much time left for me to bake. CNY is coming very soon at that time!!!

I baked the oatmeal cookies as well. So, I did exactly from what the recipe tells except for reducing the amount of sugar. This time, the cookies turned out really crispy and light. I was quite happy with it. It's not that sweet, so it'll be suitable for my dad, a diabetic to consume it. But, I felt that the oatmeal didn't really appear to be what oatmeal should be. As in, the cookies was ok but lack of aroma. Perhaps I should heat the oatmeal up or give it some roast first before baking them.

Back to the chocolate chip cookies. I decided to re-bake them. Attention, I re-bake them 2 days after they're made ~! LOL. I have no regret again to re-bake them at all. This time, I baked them in my aunt's new oven. As this new oven allows me to adjust which directions the heat comes out from, it makes better baking...I guess. I started to re-bake the cookies on the sides where I placed them at the bottom of the oven, then shift them to an upper layer in the oven and to bake the center part of the cookies. The results, the cookies were super crispy and nice!!! :) I'm so glad about it.

This is what my aunt baked. The old and traditional Butter cookies that we used to had since I'm young.

It's definately one of my favorite for butter cookies. :)

Peanut cookies that my aunt won't fail baking them every single year. This time around she used a different recipe though.

This new recipe is not bad, but I preferred her old recipe as the old ones were more moist (not so hard), more aromatic and soft. She used to make flower shaped peanut cookies last time.

My aunt also baked Famous Amous type of cookies but I forgot to take pics of them. :) My aunt didn't give me any of her recipes too. So, no recipes for her cookies. But I guess no one would bother want recipes for cookies now as CNY are already over. :P

Fish & Co at One Utama

Been to One Utama for lunch one day. It was quite long ago. Anyways, at first my friends thought of having lunch at Manhattan Fish Market but couldn't find any. So we went to ask at the information counter, only to know that there isn't any Manhattan in One Utama. @_@ How blur are we. So the restaurant that serves food closest to Manhattan was of course Fish & Co. Since I've never try Fish & Co before, so why not.

I had the Pink Passion. It was a mixture of pineapple, orange, cranberry, and honey. It's priced at RM5.90. I felt weird when drinking it at first. But, after that it was all ok. Quite nice and refreshing drink.

Another friend of mine ordered Insomnia. It was actually coffee with milk, honey, and salt. It's then topped with a swirl of whipped cream. Priced at RM5.90 also, I thought it was not bad. But I prefer those with strong caffeine ones.

One of my friend had the "so called BEST" Best Fish & Chips in Town. Priced at RM15.90, I think it was ok. Crunchy, but the batter was too heavy. The batter overpowered the fish. You can merely taste the fish but batter~!

Another friend of mine ordered the Sweet & Sour Fish. Priced at RM16.90. I think that those "dai chow" Chinese restaurant serves much more better sweet & sour fish than them. But, how come they have this in their menu? I felt so strange. I think the rice tasted SUPER weird to me. I don't know why but I don't like them.

As I normally order platter for two at Manhattan, this time I decided to order it also at Fish & Co. Me and my friend ordered the Seafood Platter for two. It consists of seasonal fish, calamari, prawns, and mussels in creamy garlic and lemon butter sauce. It's priced at RM48.90. It was really huge. Hard for 2 people to finish this whole lot!

Here are the close up pic of the calamari, mussels, prawn, and the rice. Seriously, I thought it was ok only. And guess what!!! There were bones in the calamari....why they didn't clean them properly! I really didn't like it. I was a little bit pissed off actually. If I were to compare them with Manhattan, Manhattan was much much more better than them.

To be honest, the prawns weren't fresh. I didn't really like the rice. I don't know what rice was that. I think the rice was the same with the side dish from sweet and sour fish. Is it some rice with herbs or don't know what thing..How I wonder. I prefer butter garlic rice. The sauce was ok only, not flavorful and creamy enough for me. Ok, I should stop now cause I complaint way too much.

I didn't even know my Pink Passion had a cherry at the bottom of the glass! Hidden treasure huh...luckily I like cherries. Lol, the cherry thingy did cheer me up a bit cause of the food served there.

Revisit to Italiannies at One Utama

Well well, I've been waiting for this day and here it comes! Muahahaha..(Sorry ya sorry, please forgive me for my insanity) :P I've decided to go Italiannies again with my cousins(They just came back from Australia, and I told them about the eat all you can pasta day thingy) and aunt for dinner.

It's a sad case to know that they don't have the Wednesday promo "Pasta Day" on any public holiday day eve. ARGH~~~~ My cousin told me she got no mood to shop when she got a call from them telling us about it. Oh well, after some walk and did some shopping we went into the Voir shoe shop which is just next to/or opposite Italiannies. The aroma came to us and was seducing us to go there~! We were being seducedand and we can't stnad it. So up we went in there for dinner. Haha, I said until as if it's so bad. No, it's not bad at all. At least I got to try out my tiramisu? :P

Well, there's nothing much to post about as we ordered the same pasta cause my cousins and aunt never try them out before. My cousin sis wanted to order their Pomodoro with chicken, so we ordered that on a 4-8 person portion which was priced at RM43.90. It was a huge bowl of pasta. The picture did the trick, it looked small but it's not~! Don't be deceived by it~

I'm not a huge fan of pomodoro fan, so if I need to compare it with carbonara for sure I'll pick carbonara~!

Next up, a must order pasta for me (which I recommended for them, they agreed to order it also k, I didn't force them leh) LOL, Carbonara~! (Sorry, the pic is over exposed) Again it's a 4-8 person portion which is priced at RM46.90. It was absolutely heavenly delicious~! Mama mia!!! I really really do love their Carbonara. It's aromatic, the sauce was perfect, and creamy enough and milky enough and cheesy enough...blablabla. Whatever it is, I love them~ But, you know what...it's served with BEFF!!! OMG.......I was eating hungrily and only to find out (Actually I was curious about the bacon bite pieces served in carbonara when eating them) that it was served with beef bacon! I made a SIN, what should I do????? :'( Well, I don't know what else to say, but....to apologise to my dear "God Mother".

They have something new that I didn't see them before during my last visit (I know my last visit was tad too long), my cousin bro ordered the Florence Platter which is priced at RM29.90. There were 3 different platters to choose from, my cousin brother chose the one with lamb. :)

Picture from bottom left (clockwise) was the lamb stew I guess, then vege, chicken, and the penne pasta. The lamb was really nice and tender. It was flavorful. I loved the stewed vegetables which was below the lamb pieces (As you can see from the pic), you eat them with lamb and it was just so perfect~ The penne was ok to me. Maybe it's because I loved Carbonara too much that's why it didn't taste as good as it is. The chicken was aromatic and tasted good too. But it's a little overgrilled.

Our dessert finally came, Tiramisu which priced at RM15.90. We were all over bloated but I insisted to order it as I would not want to miss the opportunity to try them again, which I did last time. The piece of tiramisu was huge. My cousin's eyes grew big when the waiter served us the tiramisu. But, I didn't know why they served the tiramisu on a wet plate. Bad bad bad. The tiramisu ended up a little to wet at the bottom (sponge cake) which makes it a little soggy. But, it didn't let me down though. It was really good. I could taste a little of liquor, but it couldn't be cause it was halal...is it? Anyway, it was really yummy. I love it! I'm so glad that I ordered the Tiramisu. :)

5 Things You Do Not Know About Me

Well, this is another very interesting meme to do~! I've been tagged by Pablopabla when I was reading the comment I got in my post. I'm surely is surprised that I got tagged and am very excited about it. :) Today, when I was reading Mei Yen's blog I saw that I got tagged by her too for the same meme~! =)

Well, so I guess I should start posting this now...haha. I was at college just now and am writing this while waiting for my class which will be ended at 6pm. Sob sob~! :'(

5 Things Which You Don't Know About Me:

    1) I hate bitter gourd, and cockles when I was a little kid. I think it's because bitter gourd tasted bitter while cockles tasted very funny to me. Well, it changed my mind for bitter gourd and cockles now. I've eaten a very nice chicken fried with bitter gourd by my mom and it tasted soo yummylicious! Bitter gourd fried with egg was heaven too.

And as for cockles, it's because I eaten once at a Thai restaurant once where they actually grill the cockles and you dip them into special spicy Thai sauce before popping into your mouth. That's when I actually loved cockles so much and got hooked to it.

    2) I came to dislike papaya. I have no idea why cause I used to eat them last time. I guess it's the moment when I heard someone said that if I eat a lot of papaya my breast will grow big. Therefore, I'm afraid to touch them. :P (Don't know how true is that...but now I don't like to consume them)

    3) I love singing just so so much~!!! I love to sing, whether it's going out with friends to sing k or singing at home. I used to turn on the music so loud in my room and started to sing and sing. I sing too when I'm having my shower. (I know I'm silly~but hey, I love to sing!)

    4) I'm actually a very careless person (As in walking). Since I was a kid until now, I will be banging into doors, cupboards, chairs, or whatever furniture or things whenever I'm walking. I'll end up wondering why I got so much blue blacks on my knees/arms/thigh/etc...I'm such a clumsy person. Sometimes I woke up from my sleep and felt that there's a pain on my leg and only to notice that there's a blue black on it. @_@ I did watch my steps and look when I'm walking but...I just couldn't help it!

    5) I'll be learning hip hop dance on March soon with my best friend. I think I'll want to learn it because it's something new and I think it'll be interesting and good to exercise a little since I'm lazy in doing excercise. :P

Ok, I've finished mine. :) Who should I tag now?

    Madam Kwan's at Bangsar

Went to shopping at Bangsar one fine afternoon with my friends about last 2 weeks ago. We were so hungry that day and had a late lunch. We were finding for parking for few minutes and managed to get a parking space opposite the Bangsar Village II (If I'm not mistaken, it's a new shopping mall). The moment we walked past a mamak stall I saw Mdm Kwan's. I was very excited as I've never dine in before. I told my friends about how popular Mdm Kwan's is with their nasi bojari and acar. Since they don't know what to eat either, they accepted my idea to have lunch there. Weee~~~ :)

At first we thought of sharing, whereby each person orders a different dish. But, it turned out to be 2 people ordering nasi lemak and 2 people ordering nasi bojari in the end. Hmm, although I won't be able to taste different item in Mdm Kwan but nevermind cause I wanted to try out their nasi bojari so badly after hearing about how great they are (and I really don't know what else to order).

We've been chatting along while waiting for the food to arrive. Finally, the food came. This is the nasi lemak which was priced at RM13.80. From left bottom (clockwise) they're sambal ikan bilis, cucumbers, curry chicken, hard boiled egg, and some powdery dried prawn thingy? I liked their sambal ikan bilis very much. Overall, the curry chicken was nice and aromatic.

Nasi Bojari was priced at RM19.90. From left bottom (clockwise), there are sambal prawns, one freshly fried chicken drumstick layed ontop of half boiled eggs and cucumbers, curry chicken (which I opted from beef to chicken), and of course the nasi itself. The nasi bojari also comes with a side dish which is acar. So sorry that the acar dish wasn't taken cause the pic was too blur. (Don't know how to use my friend's Olympus digi cam, and too lazy to adjust their settings.)

The curry chicken that I got was the same with the nasi lemak. I personally liked the curry chicken sauce and also the sambal prawns. The acar was delicious too! But, the fried drumstick was kinda common to me. Other than the drumstick being crunchy and fresh from the oil (freshly deep fried), the meat tasted kinda bland. I was expecting the drumstick to be very flavorful and aromatic, but it wasn't.

Overall, the meal was fine. We were all way too full to shop. But, we must make it! LOL I'm wondering what other popular dishes are there in Mdm Kwan's.

Korea Kyung Joo Restaurant at Mid Valley

I'm hunger for Korean food one fine evening. I'm thinking of going to Korean restaurant at Amcorp Mall where it was recommended by my friend and many of other food bloggers. But, Shujin just came all the way from PJ after work. It's impossible if I ask him to drive to Amcorp Mall again.

So, we ended up at Mid Valley. The Korean restaurant that I used to see everytime I pass by the GSC (Golden Screen Cinema) there. It's on top of the Bubble Tea kinda taiwanese cafe. So, up we went.

They gave us the menu. It wasn't much to choose from. I remembered last time where I used to dine in a Korean Restaurant ran by a Korean woman near KLCC. Their stone pot rice was delicious~! And their omelette and grilled chicken was superb.

I'm craving for the stone pot rice actually. But apparently Shujin wanted to order the stone pot rice too. So, I have to order something else (So that I can taste different food). I turn out to order Kim Chi soup with rice.

After taking the order, the appetisers arrived. They only provided us 5 types of appetisers. And some of them don't look appetising at all. I'm curious, normally korean restaurants would serves 7 plates of appetisers, isn't it? Or it's up to the restaurant to serves the number of appetisers they want to? I think I saw some who served 9 types of appetisers?

This was the mung bean sprouts with carrots. It tasted ok.

The next appetiser was kimchi preserved salted vege? It's called "ham choi" in cantonese. Forgot what it's called in english. It tasted not bad. A little salty, spicy and sour.

This is what I've always love, Kim Chi cabbage. It's nice. I loved them so much.

Spicy slice cucumber? Not sure if it's kim chi cucumber or what, but it tasted ok only.

Last but not least, is it called spinach? Gosh, I'm so bad in remembering different kinds of vegetables or fish. It tasted bland though. Is it supposed to be like that?

I ordered the peach with red tea. I actually forgotten what it's called. It costs RM5.50. I loved it soo much. It's hot and it's so aromatic. It's just my cup of tea. :P Sorry that I didn't take the pic with the tea. Only took how the mug looked like. LOL

And as usual, Shujin's Iced Lemon Tea. Priced at RM3.90, it tasted different from other lemon tea. It's not those Nestea drinks, but it's something like plum tea or something. Not sure if it's lemon tea or plum tea...hahaha. But it tasted not bad though.

Shujin's order, "Dolsot Bee Beem Bab" (Stone Pot rice with Chicken) priced at RM16. With a glance at the photo, you'll be able to see sliced carrots and cucumbers, shredded chicken meat, seaweed, and an raw egg. They added sesame seeds on top of the rice too. I forgot what's the item in between the shredded chicken and carrots.

The stone pot came with a bowl of soup and the sauce. I don't know what's the sauce, but I know it's used to add them into the stone pot rice. You can add the sauce into your rice according to your own preference.

After it's been mixed up. I don't know why I love stone pot rice, maybe because I feel healthy everytime I eat them. Add with the sauce was just prefect. Yummy yummy.

My order, "Kim Chee Jjikeh" priced at RM18. Kim Chi soup with rice. There's clams, crabsticks, kim chi, seaweed, "dong fun", tofu cubes, and other ingredients in the soup. I loved the soup very much. It warmed my heart.

Haha, I've never tasted any kim chi soup but I find it nice though to drink it up like that. Or to eat them with rice.

Overall I find the food was okay but not very happy with the appetisers. Should go Amcorp Mall's Korean restaurant to have a try one day.

    Station Kopitiam at Times Square

Each time when I'm at Times Square I have no idea at all what to eat. We've been walking around the floors which consists most of the restaurants and cafes to have a glimpse of what to eat. We saw a quite new restaurant just opposite The Chicken Rice Shop on the 4th floor. We decided to give them a try since the place was filled with quite a lot of patrons. So, let's see what we've ordered.

The one on the left was Honey Dew Juice while the one on the right was Nescafe Ice. The honeydew juice tasted ok. Priced at RM3.90, at first I thought it tasted a little weirdy but Shujin said it was nice and fresh. After a while, I think it's a pretty refreshing drink too. Shujin's Nescafe Ice was nice too. The Nescafe Ice is priced at RM2.50.

Shujin ordered the Pattaya Fried Rice. Priced at RM5.90, the fried rice consisted of some bite sized chicken meat, some shrimps, mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corns), and egg where it's all wrapped in an omelette. The rice was delicious~ I thought it would be normal but it was yummy.

I ordered BBQ Grilled Chicken which is priced at RM11.90. The grilled chicken was accompanied with fried rice, fries and boiled vegetables (a mix of carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower).

I was happy to see that the fried rice they've given me was the same with Shujin's Pattaya fried rice....but not for long. I wasn't happy at all. I ended up complaining to Shujin that the chicken's BBQ sauce was like some bottled uncooked/unheated sauce, and the boiled vegetables were over-boiled~! Last but not least the fried rice wasn't the same with Shujin's Pattaya Fried Rice. The fried rice I got wasn't that tasty. If I'm not so FUSSY, overall I would say it's still ok. @_@

But at least Shujin's Pattaya Fried Rice was nice. Maybe I ordered the wrong item. But the fried rice was supposed to be the same, isn't it? Oh well...
